Will I understand the message, even if I don’t know much about the Bible?
Our messages are prepared to connect with people’s lives by using the ageless wisdom of Scripture and presenting it in a creative, yet straightforward way using spoken words, video, and illustrations. The services are designed to be easily understood by individuals investigating or seeking what it really means to have a personal relationship with Jesus. (But here’s a secret: Even long-time Christians find these services invaluable to their spiritual and personal growth.)
What if I come from a different faith background?
Sacred Light of Christ is a non-denominational Christian church and those who attend come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds – LDS, Catholic, Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, etc. Together we focus on biblical truths and teachings and how to pursue an active relationship with Jesus Christ. You don’t have to be a member of a specific religious denomination to do that.
Do I have to dress up?
At Sacred Light of Christ, you’ll see lots of people in jeans and khakis and not so many in suits and dresses (but there are some). We want you to feel comfortable and welcome; so dress casually, and come as you are.
Where are the hymnals?
The hymnals have been replaced by a large screen TV so we can experience a wider variety of worship music. The worship team leads the congregation in upbeat songs of celebration and intimate worship experiences with God. Song lyrics are on the large screen TV so you can follow along and engage in worship.
How do people at Sacred Light of Christ express worship?
Worship involves communicating with God from our hearts. We believe in a variety of different expressions when worshiping God. You might see people clapping, dancing, or raising their hands while they sing. At Sacred Light of Christ, you are welcome to worship God in a way you feel expresses your heart toward Him. For some, that is quietly reflecting on the words; for others, that’s clapping, dancing, and singing out loud.
Movie clips, drama, and videos in church?
Often it is helpful during a message to illustrate real life situations through a movie clip, a short dramatic sketch, or a music video. Sometimes these outlets may not be from “Christian” resources per se, but we find secular pieces can also hold great truths about the human condition. After all, all good things come from God (James 1:17 paraphrase). We screen the words and content closely for use in the worship experience.
Are you going to ask me for money?
There is a time during the service when we ask for tithes and offerings. However, if you are new to Sacred Light of Christ, please do not feel obligated to give money during Worship Through Giving. You will never be pressured to give money here. Regular attendees at Sacred Light of Christ give as an act of worship to God and to support the church, church ministries, and outreaches.
What if I’m not even sure I believe in God?
If you haven’t made a decision to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, but would like to know more about Him, that’s a good thing. It means you are asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. Many people here have told us that they have learned that they had a relationship with a church rather than a loving God. We encourage you to explore answers to your questions.
How do I get involved?
Attending weekend services is a good start, but we hope you’ll move beyond being just part of the weekend crowd. You can strengthen your faith, meet people, and learn more about life as a Christ-follower by joining a group, taking a class or serving in an area in which you are interested and/or gifted.
